American Malting Barley Association opens call for proposals

The American Malting Barley Association (AMBA), a trade organization representing end users of malting barley including maltsters, brewers, and distillers, has opened their call for research grant proposals. The AMBA research grant program has a long history of supporting public barley breeding programs throughout the U.S. in addition to other projects that support AMBA’s strategic research goals. Although a modest grant program, it leverages investment by industry members that researchers can use to seek additional public funding sources. In fact, AMBA redirects nearly half of their member dues each year to this program.

Before applying, please review AMBA’s Research Strategic Goals for 2025. You can also find the full list of projects funded in 2024 on AMBA’s research page. Researchers that have received funding from AMBA in the past are encouraged to follow the guidance in the Request for Proposals. Full applications are due March 10th.

If you have not received funding through AMBA previously, please follow the pre-proposal guidance in the RFP. Be sure to include email addresses of all project participants. Due to limited funds available, we want to ensure any new proposals are reviewed before effort is put into a full proposal.

For all researchers, we encourage innovative proposals that address the most pressing issues related to a sustainable and resilient barley supply. Any questions regarding the research grant program should be directed to Scott Heisel (scott@ambainc.org).
