Industry pair tag teams advocacy workshop at National FHB Forum in Denver

The National FHB Forum is an annual event dedicated to fostering dialogue and advancing scientific knowledge to reduce the impact of FHB (scab) on wheat and barley. It attracts a diverse audience of academic and government scientists, industry leaders and stakeholders, offering a platform for exchanging ideas and exploring innovations.

At the 2025 Forum, held in Denver, Colorado December 7-9, industry advocacy professionals Molly Miller from the North American Millers' Association and Ashley McFarland from the American Malting Barley Association, were asked to share their expertise with participants that were interested in strategies to effectively advocate for their research. Miller and McFarland reviewed elements of government that impact and support federal funding initiatives, like the U.S. Wheat and Barley Scab Initiative, and best practices when communicating the need for, and impact of, critical agricultural research.

The advocacy team, representing both wheat and barley, suggests all research stakeholders to coordinate with their respective National Wheat Improvement Committee and National Barley Improvement Committee if they would like to become more engaged.
