Riverbend Malt House, based in Asheville, NC, started in 2011 to connect farmers with the craft brewers and distillers across the state. Driven by the mission to leverage local ingredients for locally-produced malt, this floor and pneumatic malting operation has realized several periods of growth as they meet the demands of the rapidly growing craft industry in their region. Riverbend fosters many sustainable commitments, including a focus on locally sourcing barley grown through regenerative practices. The malt house is the first-ever to become third party certified for regenerative farming through the Regenified™ organization. Riverbend’s membership to AMBA is driven by their desire to engage in and learn more about malt barley research. They also hope to gain knowledge on breeding efforts focused on winter barley and GN0 varieties. They want to become even more involved in research initiatives geared towards building resiliency in the barley supply impacted by climate change. AMBA is excited to bring on new members, like Riverbend, which furthers our mission to encourage and support production of an adequate supply of high quality malting barley for our various end-user members. This is accomplished by building a network of engaged barley interests so that the best available research informs the development and production of the U.S. malting barley crop.
