Michigan Brewers Guild becomes first Affiliate member of the American Malting Barley Association

The American Malting Barley Association (AMBA) welcomes its inaugural Affiliate member, the Michigan Brewers Guild. The Guild was established in 1997 and has been dedicated to increasing sales of Michigan brewed beer through promotions, marketing, public awareness, and consumer education while monitoring and ensuring a healthy beer industry within the state.

In 2024, AMBA launched the new Affiliate membership category to encourage additional investment in barley research by supporting inclusion of organizations and businesses outside the existing membership framework, which was previously only open to malt producers and users. Affiliate members have the ability to designate the recipient of their investment whether it be an AMBA supported research project, program, or event.

Scott Graham, executive director of the Michigan Brewers Guild, has long been a supporter of barley and is passionate about bringing more production locally to the Great Beer State. For several years, his organization has made an annual contribution to AMBA to bolster their investment into the Michigan State University barley research program. This new membership category now formalizes that relationship and serves as a model for similar groups to join.

AMBA is very excited to welcome the Michigan Brewers Guild to our membership base. Their participation and investment furthers our mission to encourage and support production of an adequate supply of high quality malting barley for our various end-user members. This is accomplished by building a network of engaged barley interests so  that the best available research informs the development and production of the U.S. malting barley crop.
