The American Malting Barley Association and National Barley Improvement Committee join over 100 other farm and commodity groups, food and agriculture science organizations, universities, and industry groups in expressing their support for the $200 million in funding for the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) that was included in the Senate farm bill. The letter was sent by a diverse coalition to the House and Senate Ag Committees.
FFAR is an independent, non-profit organization established by the U.S. Congress in the 2014 Farm Bill, although since it's inception, has been severely underfunded. It seeks to fill critical gams in the USDA research agenda and increase public investment in agricultural research. It promotes public-private partnership and leverages a matching-funds model. FFAR prioritizes actionable science, aiming to produce practical, publicly available tools and insights that directly benefit farmers, ranchers, consumers, and the environment.
