Brewers Association joins the American Malting Barley Association as an Affiliate Member

The American Malting Barley Association (AMBA) welcomes the Brewers Association as an Affiliate member. The Brewers Association (BA) is a not-for-profit trade association of brewers, for brewers and by brewers. The BA has long partnered with AMBA, ensuring a consistent voice is represented from craft brewers in the shared goal of barley improvement.

In 2024, AMBA launched the new Affiliate membership category to encourage additional investment in barley research by supporting inclusion of organizations and businesses outside the existing membership framework, which was previously only open to malt producers and users. Affiliate members have the ability to designate the recipient of their investment whether it be an AMBA supported research project, program, or event.

Chuck Skypeck, Technical Brewing Projects Director, sought to formalize their partnership with AMBA through an Affiliate membership. Skypeck shared, “The future success of barley cultivation, and by extension the future of the brewing industry, is facing critical challenges including declining acres, agronomic challenges, climate change, and decreases in research funding. AMBA has plans and strategies in place to address these challenges.” Formalizing this relationship strengthens industry collaboration and communication, noted by Skypeck as the keys to success for barley cultivation, malting, and brewing. “AMBA bridges the gaps between these supply chain partners.”

AMBA is very excited to welcome the Brewers Association to our membership base. Their participation and investment furthers our purpose to advance a resilient supply of quality malting barley by unifying stakeholders to leverage innovative research, development, and advocacy efforts. This is accomplished by building a network of engaged barley interests so that the best available research informs the development and production of the U.S. malting barley crop.
