The American Malting Barley Association (AMBA) is excited to announce the return of The Lagunitas Brewing Company as a Regular member. Lagunitas had long been an Associate member of the Association but felt the investment as a Regular member was timely given the challenges to the barley supply in recent years. Lagunitas has been brewing hop-forward beers in California for over 30 years.
Motivation for membership stemmed from Lagunitas’ desire to become more knowledgeable on barley growing practices and their impact on beer flavor. They also want to join the movement within the industry to support adoption of sustainable barley growing practices on-farm. That includes investing in research and development of dryland winter barleys as they believe that adoption will bring greater resilience to their supply chain. Lagunitas plans to be engaged in the AMBA’s Sustainability Committee, specifically helping establish benchmarks for continuous improvement in barley production.
AMBA is very excited to welcome Lagunitas back to AMBA. Their participation and investment furthers our mission to encourage and support production of an adequate supply of high quality malting barley for our various end-user members. This is accomplished by building a network of engaged barley interests so that the best available research informs the development and production of the U.S. malting barley crop.
