Diageo upgrades to Regular AMBA membership

The American Malting Barley Association (AMBA) is excited to announce an upgraded membership by Diageo, recently converting their Associate to Regular membership. Diageo is a diverse beverage company representing a broad portfolio of beer and spirit brands, including Guinness, Johnnie Walker, and Crown Royal. Their operations span across the globe, including their Guinness Open Gate Brewery, which is located near Baltimore, Maryland.

Diageo has long maintained an AMBA membership, but they chose to return as Regular members to increase contact with barley and malt suppliers, strengthening their relationships throughout the supply chain. Their interest also lies in gaining more insight on sustainability opportunities and challenges in barley production and procurement and to have access to the newest research around barley and malt flavor contributions. Because of their diverse portfolio of beer and spirit brands, they also believe in the importance of investing in barley development and improvement, specific to the needs of the distilling industry, including non-GN (glycosidic nitrile) varieties.

AMBA is very excited to welcome Diageo back to our Board, especially given their diverse brand portfolio spanning the brewing and distilling industries - a helpful perspective given evolving industry trends. Their participation and investment furthers our mission to encourage and support production of an adequate supply of high quality malting barley for our various end-user members. This is accomplished by building a network of engaged barley interests so that the best available research informs the development and production of the U.S. malting barley crop.
